Is this a physical toy?

I've never made amigurumi. Can I do this?

Yes! It's only two pieces and one joining round, with no limbs to sew on. Every step has a photo, and the technique guide covers everything from the magic ring to the final flip.

How does the flip work?

The octopus is two halves, a happy one and a grumpy one, joined with one round. Turn it inside out and the other face pops out. The pattern includes "how the flip works" diagrams.

I've never used chenille yarn.

The Chenille Survival Guide inside covers the tricks: finding stitches by touch, keeping ends from slipping, and what to do if your magic ring won't close.

What do I need?

Super bulky chenille yarn in 2 colours (one 100 g ball of each), a scrap of black worsted yarn, a 5 mm (US H/8) hook, 2 pairs of 12 mm safety eyes, about 30 g of toy stuffing, a tapestry needle, stitch markers and a few clips or pins.

Can I use a different yarn?

Yes. Any super bulky chenille works. Use worsted yarn and a 3.5 mm hook for a keychain-size octopus, or jumbo chenille for a giant one. The size guide is included.

Is it safe for young children?

Safety eyes are not suitable for children under 3. The pattern shows a child-safe embroidered-eye option.

Can I sell what I make?

Absolutely. The commercial-use license lets you sell finished octopuses at markets, fairs and online. Please credit "Pattern by Yarnly Crochet", and don't share, copy or resell the pattern itself.

US or UK crochet terms?

Both. The pattern uses US terms, and a full UK-terms version is included.
